Fall Season (September through November)
Black and Spotted Bass
A. Where to Look - Start along the edges of creek channels, especially in the tight bends, where the creek forms a point, in and around heavy timber cover. Also try deeper grass beds in 10 to 15 ft. of water. B. What Baits to use - crank baits, spinner baits, jig and craworm combo, plastic worms and lizards’ fished Carolina rigged. C. Techniques - the bass are schooled up and feeding heavy. Locate groups of fish by sight (schooling) or in areas mentioned above and fish whatever baits you like to fish any way you like to fish it. The bass are very easy to catch this time of year.
White and Striped Bass
A. Where to Look - main lake along the river channel. B. What Baits to use - crank baits (bomber 6a, little N) C. Techniques - locate fish schooling by sight or casting. The whites are grouped up and feeding heavy on shad. Fish are easily caught with varied speed retrieved lures. Not uncommon this time of year to catch fish (once located) every cast.
Crappie
A. Where to Look - Main creeks and river channel. The fish are grouping up for the winter and can be found suspended off the edges of these main channels. B. What Baits to use - jigs (1/32, 1/16) and minnows. C. Techniques - vertical jigging over brush and other heavy cover in 10 - 20 ft. Start deep and work shallower with slow jigging action.
Bream
A. Where To Look - 5 - 15 ft. Depth fish are spread out heading back to deep water. Look along deep grass lines and creek channels. B. What Baits to use - crickets, red worms, mealworms, and jigs. C. Techniques - cast parallel to grass lines, allow bait to fall slowly on a tight line, and retrieve with a slow pumping action. Use bobber or float to suspend bait at varied depths off the bottom.
Catfish
A. Where to Look - 10 - 15-ft deep flats, and along the main river channel. B. What Baits to use - cut bait, worms, minnows, small bream, and prepared baits. C. Techniques - use a rod and reel to fish the bait on the bottom with a Carolina type rig tight lined.
