Nature Trails

The Sabine National Forest has an extensive network of old logging roads that have long been abandoned. They are located and reach into just about every part of the forest. These old roads make great trails for hiking or even biking in some cases. All of the National Forest is open to the public for use. The only restriction is to motorized vehicles such as motorcycles and four wheelers. The National Forest recreational sites located on or near the Toledo Bend Reservoir are good locations to base your nature experiences. All of the sites have parking lots, campsites, and rest rooms with some drinking water available. These trails cover a wide variety of landscape and wildlife habitat. Maps are available to the public at any of the Forest Service offices. These maps show the old roads and trails that exist for hiking and biking. If you’re looking for a getaway from the crowds this is the place to do it. The variety and beauty of East Texas It’s still pretty much a well-kept secret so don’t wait too long.

Ultimately, nature tourism leads to conservation by encouraging landowners and communities to conserve habitats, providing wildlife viewers greater opportunity, and inviting people to experience for themselves the abundant natural resources of Texas. We want more and more people to engage in the enjoyment of nature, thereby gaining greater appreciation and understanding of the importance of conserving wildlife and their habitats for present and future generations.
