Spring Season (March through May)
Black and Spotted Bass
A. Where to look - The bass are in full spawn; shallow ridges and humps in the main lake are old favorites. Shallow flats near the shoreline and in the backs of feeder creeks will produce good fish. B. What Baits to use - jig and pig, plastic lizards, jerk baits, big plastic worms, and spinner baits. C. Techniques - jig and pig pitched or flipped into or around button willows are an old Toledo Bend favorite. Plastic lizards fished slowly Texas or Carolina rigged on top of shallow flats, ridges, and humps produce some of the best catches this time of year. Jerk baits fished shallow around grass or bushes will bring on some heart stopping strikes. 12 inch worms fished shallow around lay downs and stumps reap some of the heaviest stringers. Spinner baits thrown almost anywhere shallow will produce numbers of scrappy medium sized bass. A tip to remember is the larger the spinner bait and the slower it’s worked the bigger the bass it will produce.
White and Striped Bass
A. Where to Look - The River channel. B. What Baits to use - tail-spins, jigging spoons, smaller crank baits, rattletraps, live crawfish, and minnows. C. Techniques - Fish the tailspins, spoons, and live bait vertically over the inside bends in the river channel. The crank baits should be cast as far as possible from deep water, on to the points in the river bends, retrieving the baits from shallow to deep at varying speeds.

Bream
A. Where to Look - 6-10 ft. Deep near shallow flats or ridges. B. What Baits to use - crickets, red worms, and meal worms. C. Techniques - fish tight line with long pole or ultra light spinning outfit. Fishing 4 -5 ft. Down slow retrieve. Cork or bobber may be used set at about the same depth.
