Winter Season (December through February)
Black and Spotted Bass
A. Where to Look - along main creeks and river channel B. What Baits to use - large spinner baits 3/4 - 1 oz., jig and craworm or pork combo. C. Techniques - Slow roll spinner baits along breaks on the main channels. The slower it's worked the better it works. A rule of thumb when fishing spinner bait this time of year is if you feel the blade turning your fishing too fast. Work jigs around breaks and structure (drop-offs, stumps, lay downs, and deep grass.
White and Striped Bass
A. Where to Look - the main river channel. The white are starting their annual run up the river during this time of year. B. What Baits to use - road runners and 1/4 oz. rattletraps C. Techniques - when water conditions are in the high stage fish the eddies behind sandbars and the moths of feeder creeks. In low or normal conditions fish bluff banks of the river channel with varied types of retrieves to find exactly what the fish are wanting.
Crappie
A. Where to look - deep water along the edges of the main river channel, in or around brush or timber structure. Fish 15 to 25 ft depth water. B. What Baits to use - 1/32 - 1/16 jigs, minnows. C. Techniques - vertically fish both jigs and minnows on light tackle. Very slow presentation, starting on the bottom and slowly working your way up to about 10-ft. deep.
Bream
A. Where to Look - main creeks and river channels 10 - 25 ft. deep. B. What Baits to use - worms or jigs. C. Techniques - very slow vertical jigging, starting at the bottom and working up to about 10 ft. deep.
Catfish
A. Where to Look - main creeks and river channel B. What Baits to use - cut bait, worms, and minnows. C. Techniques - Slow vertical fishing using rod and reel. Start on the bottom in 20 - 40 ft. Working up till you find the level the fish are at.
